Alcohol and your skin

Updated: Jan 10, 2023

Drinking alcohol can have a number of effects on your skin. It can cause dehydration, which can make your skin dry and flaky. It can also cause inflammation, which can lead to redness and puffiness. In addition, alcohol can dilate blood vessels, which can cause the appearance of spider veins and a flushed complexion.

Finally, alcohol can impair the skin's ability to repair itself, which can lead to an increase in wrinkles and other signs of aging. Overall, it is best to consume alcohol in moderation to minimize its negative effects on your skin.

Here are a few steps you can take to help reverse the effects of alcohol on your skin:

  1. Stay hydrated: Alcohol can cause dehydration, which can make your skin dry and flaky. It is important to drink plenty of water and other hydrating fluids to help replenish the moisture in your skin. Recommended guidelines are between 2 - 3 litres of water each day.

  2. Get enough sleep: Alcohol can interfere with sleep, which can make your skin look tired and dull. Make sure to get enough sleep to help your skin look its best. 7 - 9 hours sleep each night is perfect.

  3. Eat a healthy diet: A diet high in fruits, vegetables, and other nutrient-rich foods can help support healthy skin. Avoid sugary and processed foods, which can contribute to inflammation and other problems with the skin. 5. Limit your alcohol consumption: To help prevent future damage to your skin, try to limit your alcohol consumption to no more than one drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men. Or cut out drink altogether! It really doesn't have any benefits!
